Clicking the image of Gary Owens from CWU Branch York & Distract Amal, to watch this new video precluded by Jessica Trusler, Royal Mail.

Here Gary gives some background to how the video came about:

"It started when I turned up for a people’s panel event at midlands super hub back in February 2025 , internal comms team approached me wanting someone to speak on camera on event that day. While waiting, I told Paul Smith of my journey from despair to becoming a Mental Health First Aider & your wellbeing ambassador.

He told me he’d love to do a story on my journey as a powerful piece to alert people who may need help. If someone had told me a few yrs ago that I’d be sharing my story and speaking in front of a large group of people; I would have said no way!"

Gary told Unionsafety:

"I hope sharing my story nervously & painful as it was, that it helps someone out there feel less alone , starts a conversation and gives them courage to cross the line to seek support. I ’ve had loads of great messages on the video, but I don’t want it to be about me - I want it to show people that there is support out there, and most importantly colleagues are not alone."

Gary has also deigned a poster for Branches to use, which can be seen here: Mental Health First Aider Designs Poster To Encourage Talking
